Updort.

Just finished setting up the next Dash page for coloring and have the text down. Now is time for some Lost Winds before bed. BUY THE DAMN GAME I'M SERIOUS.

This Dash page required a lot of panel revisions, but it's a much stronger page because of it I think, hopefully it'll be well-received. The revision total was about 7 panels, which is kind of impressive considering I drew and inked several of them within the last couple hours.

Hopefully my Girls With Slingshots guest comic will run, I enjoyed doing it and it seemed like Danielle enjoyed it as well. We'll need to see what happens.

I'm still interested in doing a second, quicker comic to do inbetween Dash updates, hopefully Sara will get off her lazy butt (you know I <3 you) as I want to just draw what someone else writes for a change.

As for tomorrow, Mixdown of the Trek audio and the second half of the lab practicum.

Then wednesday is a hydrogen presentation by your's truly.

Indiana Jones this week, I am cautiously optimistic!

Current Page

Something I think I'm gonna do from now on. Periodically, I will screencap the page I am working on and dump a jpeg of it onto my site. Eventually I'd like to have a little sidebar feature that shows this automatically so you guys are in the loop on my page progress, for now though, I'll do it as an entry to the blog.

Anyway, click to see the full-sized image, it even gives you a look at my tools and settings.

Enjoy!

Speed Racer

... was okay. Nothing major, but it has inspired me to set a new goal in life.

Get an F-Zero movie made. I'll do it, just watch.

I totally want to see Big Blue on the big screen, it'd kick the crap out of the Fuji-sequence in Speed Racer.

Also, Falcon Punches. They will be present.

So, here is to F-Zero one day!

The show went great!

(Original Post)

My first tooncast went scarily well, had a good amount of people and it lasted two hours, so expect me to do this every Saturday.

Of course, I had to make some decisions based on this one, so future installments will be an hour long, and I will need some mods as the discussion went on too far a tangent at times (thought I indulged in these distractions, I'll need to exhibit more self-control on my part it seems).

Anyway, if you missed it, you can catch it next week. Please be sure to keep an eye out on the show.

Care to beta-test a font I made?

Turns out I felt compelled to create my own font for Cosmic Dash. You won't see it on this page, but you probably will on the next. So far, version 1.0 is up and done, and here is a preview image. If you'd like to use the font, comment here or send me an e-mail (hpkomic@gmail.com) and I'll send it to you. Help me make the font awesome.

Remember, if you're gonna use this font, I'd appreciate your feedback, suggestions and crits. I'd especially appreciate it if you mentioned my site if you use them.

005- More than one way to shake an egg.

The fire forests tend to be much fuller in the forest, this of course makes a huge glowing reddish blur. Pleased with this page, tried a few new things, I particularly like the object overlapping in the last two panels. Kind of sucks they gotta carry the egg by hand though... and no gadgets? I bet Dash feels naked without any technology he can use

Also, remember at five today I'll be drawing the next Dash page live and you can watch and talk to me. I'll answer any questions you have.

Want to watch me draw comics live?

The next page is coming along pretty well I think.

In other news, I will be doing a weekly show! That's right, I'll be Tooncasting!

Every Saturday from 5PM Pacific Standard Time until "question mark" I'll hook up my camera and mic and draw live and chat with viewers. So go ahead and bookmark hpkomic's comic-factory and check it out this Saturday. I'll be glad to talk about stuff with you guys as I doodle.

:(

Just got a hold of some Hey Arnold! episodes as well as the movie. (I think they first time I ever actually "shipped" was Arnold and Helga, goddamnit).

I really, really miss the show.

I also am sad we'll never see "The Patakis". D:

No comic next week.

Yes, yes, lame of me I know. Unfortunately, I have some higher priorities. First off, these are the last few weeks of class and I have much do in each of them. I also have several commissions, one of which is doing some designs for a game.

But, have a sketch, expect at least a couple sketchbook posts next week.

004- Omelette Omega.

I'm so tired! At least the page is done.

I have a ton of stuff to do this weekend, and its obscenely hot, so not much for notes on this update.

Uh. Big egg, right?

Weekend Checklist

  • Cosmic Dash
  • Environment Research
  • Animation Paper Revision
  • Emerald Jewel Wasp Reproduction Paper
  • Revise Squid Presentation
  • Commissions
  • Star Trek Audio Planning

A lot to do this weekend.

Edit 1: HOLY CRAP I HATE EMERALD JEWEL WASPS NOW GODDAMN. HORRIFIC PAPER.

Going to bed now. Hopefully I'll have some time to do some drawing in the morning.

EDIT 2: Research done, just need to make a bibliography on it.

Also, analyze my faults:

Finishing up a Dash page right now.

EDIT 3: Dash page finally done. I need a break.

Holy Nostalgia Batman.

Warning, this post does NOT contain Batman. Sorry.

Recently I found the first two CDs I ever bought after having not listened to them since I was in... jesus. High School. The CD's are Smash Mouth's Astro Lounge, and Blink 182's Enema of the State, and as likely as this is to lose me some friends, the CDs actually hold up pretty well. I'm sure it's mostly nostalgia talking of course. Neither band holds a candle to Daft Punk or Ween, but I can certainly listen to them without going into rage-induced convulsions.

Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP, though, isn't so easy. :\

Bonus round, I also have Bob Marley's Greatest Hits (I shot the Sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy) and Journey's Greatest Hits as well.

On an unrelated note, one of Jarrid's last days with us before he left for Germany featured four of us in his car with Don't Stop Believin' cranked up super loud with our collective, tone-deaf singing.

Memories.

2-2 Preview

From the next page I'm working on. Generally, I try to draw the entire page on one sheet of paper, though often times I'll scrap single panels since I know I can do them better on another pass and paper. These two panels were first drafts and I'm happy with them. This time around there were only two panels that I feel like changing. That notation "flip" is one of my design-notes. I actually tend to scribble all over the page. I actually don't need to flip the panel, since I noted that before I drew the panel afterwards.

Anyway, are you guys enjoying these glimpses of pages before they get posted? Hopefully I've not posted anything *too* spoilerific.

Kiiiiiiiiiirkman!

Just caught up with The Walking Dead. Man, Kirman's a damn fine writer. Took me completely by surprise. I knew that people we going to die, but this REALLY threw me for a loop. In a good way.

So, what's on this week's agenda? I'll be heading to class early tomorrow, gotta polish up the haunted house recording. The plus side is I will likely dump it to my site for everyone to download an pass judgement on! Sweet!

I need to revise my squid-poster. I'll get on that this week. I had to finish researching for my wasp paper. You have no idea how hard it was for me to find information of how the Wasps exchange their genetics. Turns out they use sperm-packets! I never thought I'd be so glad to say sperm-packets!

Finished my English paper on From Adherence to Obsolescence, now I need to start looking a bit more into re-writing my animation paper.

Uh, dunno what else to say really. Finished the first page of The Path comic for James.

Uh... more later I guess?

Banner of the Stars 3

I finally snagged a fansub of Banner of the Stars 3. I own Crest of the Stars as well as the first two Banner of the Stars volumes on DVD (I'd get 3, but I don't think it's available to the US yet.)

I've never found a sci-fi program of any kind that really had any form of emotional impact on me. Even more alarming is that I am totally willing to call myself a shipper due to this program.

Yes. I said shipper.

I really want to get the novels, since I have a feeling the anime may not continue considering it has a rather niche-appeal to it. I know that the creator will continue putting out more novels at least.

Still, that OVA was just nuts. I really feel terrible for Jinto. :\

003- Task in the Temple

Sorry the comic was late! A lot or work went into this one. I already spot some things on this change I'll be changing on future pages.

First off, you should notice Marken's "pupils" on his goggles now. That'll likely need a little fine-tuning. Next, dialogue balloons are hand-drawn now. They look a little rougher, but I think that's just fine.

So... what's up with the egg huh?

Freewrite #2

Second installment of my free-write story.

Thoughts?

Blurgh.

Expect to see me online much less. It's cutting into my productivity.

On the other hand, I have dug up a kickass horror podcast.

It's all old-timey radio! :D

Yeah yeah, the page is coming slowly.

I'm aware that I'm not even three pages in and have a huge delay between pages. I really have no excuse, but I'll go ahead and in it on a computer reformatting, numerous projects at school and a commissioned comic.

The page is still coming of course, just slowly, but it's looking good. To the left you can see one of the panels thus far. Dash is obviously saying something cheeky. Mara is not amused.

As for projects, due to a complete computer reformatting, I lost a bunch of essays I thought I'd had backed up, so I need to rewrite several. I also have a haunted house recording I am doing in my audio-class. It's a lot of fun and I am considering posting it online later for no other reason but to let others poke fun at it.

Meanwhile, the commissioned comic is for my buddy James and his comic, The Path. I am doing a story featuring his character, Wolf.

What's neat is that I get to mess with drawing monsters in this one. Click the panel below to see the first half of the first page, or you can view a sketch of the monster I'll be using. It was pretty fun to draw and this whole story looks to be a big departure from what I normally do, with an exception for the covers I do for The Path once in a while.
